Stock market and financial instruments. Graphic designer’s guide

Jakub Stelmach

 What is the project about?

This project is a condensed guide for graphic designers doing projects on the stock market, its analysis and related fields. The end product of this analysis is a guide in the form of a book discussing the basics of graphic design, stock market and stock market analysis in the context of data visualisation.

For whom the project was created?

The main objective of the project was to select the most relevant terms related to the stock market, markets and financial instruments, and to organise them, juxtaposing knowledge from the world of finance with the basics of visual information design.

What is the aim of the project?

The publication is intended for graphic designers. The book can also be a valuable resource for students of economics, stock market enthusiasts, and those wishing to broaden their skills in the basics of data visualisation.

What was the motivation?

The inspiration behind this project came from my career path, which at one point steered me towards working for a financial institution. Thrown into the deep end of a completely new terminology, nature of work and type of projects, I was forced to start the process of learning about the world of finance, which was an enigma to me. I realised that there may be more designers who found themselves in a similar situation.

Additional values

The most important advantage of the publication is undoubtedly the synthesis of seemingly very distant topics. It is also worth mentioning the medium itself – that is, the book, which has been designed for long-term use (the knowledge found in the publication is so universal that it is not subject to rapid changes and updates). An important aspect from the perspective of the designer, but not exclusively, are also the aesthetic qualities.
