Fabryka absolutu

What is it about?
The project is a trilingual publication (PL, EN, CN) accompanying Andrzej Wasilewski’s exhibition, dedicated to coal as a geological, historical, and symbolic matter. The book combines essays by authors from Europe and China with microscopic imagery and exhibition documentation. Visually, it stands out with bold, at times chaotic typography that creates a multi-layered narrative. Its most conceptual element is a thermoactive cover that changes from black to transparent when exposed to heat, revealing hidden text.

Why was it created and for whom?
The project was created for readers interested in the relationship between art, ecology, and politics. In the context of the theme “Cycles,” it portrays coal as a link in the energy cycle: from organic matter to fuel and social processes. The goal was to create an object that through its form (the interactive cover) engages the viewer and encourages reflection on the cycles of life and the transformation of matter. The publication serves as an artistic voice in the debate on raw materials and their impact on history and the future of the world.
