PRZESTRZEŃ ZASTANA

What is it about?
The project involves transforming a post-industrial site into a city park with an educational playground, based on the idea of fully utilizing existing resources. A key element of the concept is the recycling of concrete road slabs and the preservation of synanthropic vegetation (plants naturally occurring on wasteland). The reclaimed concrete serves as the building material for educational paths and small architecture, such as seating and recreational elements. The project merges a raw, industrial landscape with new social functions, creating a space that—instead of erasing the site’s history—makes it the foundation of a modern and ecological adaptation.

Why was it created and for whom?
The project was created for the local community, with a particular focus on children, for whom the playground becomes a space for education on ecology and local history. The goal was to design a park in the spirit of “zero waste,” proving that demolition materials and “wild” vegetation possess high functional and aesthetic value. By creatively repurposing concrete, the project minimizes the environmental costs of new investment and promotes respect for the site’s identity. The park is intended to serve as a model solution for other post-industrial areas, demonstrating how to transform wastelands into vibrant, sustainable urban ecosystems.
