What is it about?

The project is an original graphic interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, focused on visualizing the dualism and psychological complexity of the main character. The publication is divided into two contrasting sections: black print on white paper and black print on black pages, directly symbolizing a split personality. The illustrative layer consists of modified resources from Wikimedia Commons—images underwent manual deconstruction (tearing, gluing) to convey the character’s growing chaos and insanity. The work is completed with hand-stitching and a custom binding, creating a cohesive, expressive book object.

Why was it created and for whom?

The project was created for collectors and readers seeking profound visual experiences within literary classics. The primary goal was to translate the literary motif of the “double self” into the language of a physical object. Through drastic changes in page structure and collage techniques, the book aims to evoke anxiety in the reader and support Stevenson’s emotional narrative. The project proves that the editorial form can become an active commentary on the text, allowing the reader to feel, almost physically, the struggle between two natures unfolding within the protagonist.
