What is it about?

A design for manhole covers inspired by the history and maritime identity of Gdansk, developed at the Gdansk Academy of Fine Arts. Beyond the aesthetic layer, a key element was adapting the designs to cast iron technology. The project incorporates technical parameters such as anti-slip properties, appropriate angle of the walls for easier molding, efficient water drainage, and optimal placement of inspection openings.

Why was it created and for whom?

The project was created for the city of Gdansk and its residents to transform purely technical infrastructure elements into a unique hallmark of the metropolis. The goal was to merge functionality with design, achieved through close cooperation with Gdańskie Wodociągi (Gdansk Waterworks). The final implementation aims to distinguish the urban space and elevate the aesthetics of everyday utility objects while maintaining their rigorous technological requirements.
