Paulina Urbańska

Curator of the AGRAFA’22 International Student Design Competition, responsible for the content-related part of the competition and the organisation of Young AGRAFA’22; has been curating the competition since 2017 and was also the curator of the first edition of Young AGRAFA’19.

Involved in the popularisation of design, originator and curator of the cyclical Design in Kato debates, and an active designer since 2012. Jury member in design competitions, e.g. PGDAwards. She is primarily interested in information, publication and visual identity design. She cooperates mainly with with cultural institutions: Medialab Katowice, Goethe Institute in Prague, NOSPR in Katowice. For 9 years, as a research and didactic worker, she has been co-creating the curriculum of the Typography course at Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Katowice. She is also involved in the POWER project (Development Programme of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice), where she is the head of the computerisation team developing the systematic archiving of the Academy’s heritage. She  engages in the activities of design community and non-profit organisations using design tools for educational purposes. Winner of many awards and distinctions, including mainly German Design Awards and Śląska Rzecz competitions.

To me, BEYOND means…
Something more than stepping outside the box and limitations. If it was not for Beyond, we would have become mere unreflective information processing machines. With Beyond, we are still needed as designers – people.
