Piotr Rypson
Historian of visual culture and literature, art critic. Lecturer at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology, curator at the Jewish Historical Institute. He served as Deputy Director for Research of the National Museum in Warsaw (2011–2018), editor-in-chief of the “Obieg” magazine (1990–1994) and curator of the Collections and Gallery of the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw (1993–1996). Author of many exhibitions and books, including Red Montagist: Mieczysław Berman – The Graphic Designer who Designed Polish Communism (2017, in Polish), Against All Odds Polish Graphic Design 1919–1949 (2011), Pyramids, Suns, Labyrinths. Visual Poetry in Poland from the. 16th to the 18th Centuries (2002, in Polish).
BEYOND – can designers go off the beaten track?
In his summary of the conference, Piotr Rypson will try to answer the question to what extent designers should aim to influence the shape of the world; whether this challenge is beyond their capabilities and what conditions would have to be fulfilled for them to play an important role in social change.
