Jasiek Krzysztofiak - AGRAFA

Jasiek Krzysztofiak is an award-winning information designer, working as Senior Art Editor for the science journal Nature in London. With his team at Nature they aim to communicate complex scientific stories visually in a coherent and engaging way using explanatory diagrams, data visualisations, infographics and illustrations. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and later studied the postgraduate Information Design programme at the University of Reading.

Dataviz goes viral

Since the beginning of the Covid pandemic we have observed data visualisation becoming one of the key tools of communication about the crisis. Information designers and journalists needed to quickly adapt to the new situation which raised many unique challenges. The presentation explores how this topic was reported in different media with data and graphics, and compares visual journalism best practice with misinformation. In particular, it focuses on the work of the art team at Nature, our approach to science communication and the news output throughout the pandemic.
