He has a PhD in economics and also a degree in information technology and strong hands-on experience on software development and processing of large amounts of data. Currently, he works at the Finnish Energy Authority focusing on electricity market surveillance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main goal of market surveillance is to build and maintain public trust on functionality and fairness of energy markets. In practice, this means detecting prohibited behaviour in the market, but also explaining to the public the reasons behind market situations that may seem strange and difficult to understand at first glance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Explaining power markets with graphs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Energy markets are very complex and have some specific features which distinguish them from other commodity markets.
